Manchester City hold football clinic in Kolkata

Kolkata, March 3 (IANS): English Premier League champions Manchester City brought in a three-day football coaching clinic here which drew around 400 youngsters.

The clinic, which will end on Wednesday, has sought to provide the youngsters a chance to learn the tricks and trades of modern football from international coaches. Also on display was the Premier League trophy.

Prominent Manchester City youth coaches Andy Smith and Alan Dixon were present throughout the programme. Among the youngsters were kids from Magic Bus, a sporting and educational charity which supports under-privileged children.

“We are here to give the kids a feel of Manchester City. Our main aim was to bring City to Kolkata. We have football schools in Melbourne and Abu Dhabi and may be in future we would have a school in India too, but no plans as of now," Smith said on Tuesday.

"Football in India can improve only when you have the proper infrastructure and youth development programmes like these.”
