Mangalore, Jan 31: Dr Madhav Bhandari, Mangalore zone convener of Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) has been appointed president of Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
This is for the first time that a BJP candidate has been appointed to MUDA as president. In all these years MUDA was headed by non-BJP presidents. Following a delay in appointing presidents for boards and commissions in the state, MUDA president's post too was vacant. Accordingly deputy commissioner was holding the additional responsibility of MUDA president of the sometime now.
Dr Madhav Bhandari has been active in various fronts for long. He is the founder of Hosa Diganta daily which he started in 1979. Thereafter he also headed Hosa Diganta Printer's Ltd and was also the managing director of Hosa Diganta group. During the emergency he was sent behind the bars for a long period of 18 months.
