Kasargod, Mar 3: Two persons who are reported to have conned people of crores of rupees with false promises of providing employment in Singaporean ships have been arrested.
Abdul Lathif (35) from Mulleria Nettanige and another person are arrested.
Over ten other persons were allegedly involved with this fraud, and all of them have gone underground.
It is alleged that the duo demanded Rs 1. 25 lac per visa for securing them jobs in ships operating from Singapore. The aspirants were promised lucrative jobs with hefty salaries,it is said. The duo demanded for payment of Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000 per person in advance. In November 2014. Many people reportedly paid the money as demanded above, duly selling their valuable possessions in order to land in the foreign country for the promised jobs.
But when the promises were not fulfilled, many approached the above persons to either return their money or provide them visas as promised. But the duo left them high and dry, and just disappeared without any trace. Avinash, Ajith and Sajith from Kasargod and Rajendran, Muhammed and Ashraf from Thiruvananthapuram had lodged police complaints allegint that they had been cheated.
Now the police are looking for the others involved with this fraud.
