Panaji, March 2 (IANS): Local football giants Dempo SC confirmed on Monday they have parted ways with Australian coach Arthur Papas, who was with the club since 2013.
The club said the parting of ways was agreed to last week after the Australian resigned citing personal reasons.
"I wish to place on record my thanks to Mr. Shrinivas Dempo, support staff and the players for the period of employment as head coach of Dempo SC, and wish the club continued success for the rest of the season and beyond," Papas was quoted as saying by the I-League website.
He joined the club in June 2013 and guided it to a fourth place finish in the 2013-14 season of the I-League as well as a place in the semi-finals and finals of the Federation Cup in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
Papas also served as assistant coach of FC Goa in the Indian Super League.
Mauricio Afonso will be the interim head coach for the Goan outfit for their upcoming match against Mohun Bagan on March 4.
