Mangaluru, Mar 2: 'Salomi’ a play based on a biblical story was enacted at Kalaangann, Shakthingar on Sunday March 1.
This was Mandd Sobhann’s 159th monthly theatre programme. The play was presented by Mandd Sobhann in association with Rosario college of management.
The original story written by Oscar Wilde has been translated into Konkani by Fr Alwyn Serrao. The play was directed by Christopher D'Souza, Neenasam.This monthly theatre was sponsored by a wellwisher from Bejai and John Oswald Cordeiro from Mumbai.
Herodias bore a grudge against John the Baptist for stating that Herod's marriage to her was unlawful. She encourages her daughter Salomi to demand that John the Baptist, prophet in prison be executed. Salomi receives John's head on a platter as gift for dancing to 'please' King Herod on his birthday. Herod does it against his wish as he had taken an oath. Herod ultimately orders the execution of Salomi in the drama.
The play held the audience spellbound as they remained glued to their seats for nearly 2 hours.
Fr Alwyn Serrao, Christopher Ninasam and Evelin Cordeiro were honoured before the play started.
Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu, Fr J B Crasta, Fr William Menezes, Eric Ozario, Luvi J Pinto were also present among other spectators.

I did not know such high standard acting group was there in Konkani until I saw Kalakul’s ‘Bomma’ & ‘Melya Upranth’ in Dubai. Then I saw their ‘Nimanne Tees Dees’ in Mangalore beginning of winter which was also unique. All because of sheer dedication of Mandd Sobhann Organization.
Superb Play, must watch
Indeed salomi was so thrilling. Actors were not just actors but rather real actors. I would love to see them in movies soon. By the way the ending of the play was spellbinding! one should never miss kalaakul plays...
