Mangalore, Jan 31: "Mahatma Gandhiji cannot be termed only as an idol but he is an ideology. But it is regretting to observe that he has been used as a pawn in all public spheres including social work and politics. Otherwise how can we justify the fact the roads and streets named after this great personality are domains for bars, live-bands, flesh trade etc?," questioned K Suresh Babu, former Western Range IGP.
He was speaking during the special programme organized by Mahatma Gandhi Peace Foundation on the 59 death anniversary of Father of Nation on Tuesday January 30 here.
Foundation president K Purushotham presided over the function while honorary president Octavia Albuquerque and vice-president Karunakaar Uchil were also present on the occasion.
Dr N Ismail welcomed the gathering.
