Bengaluru: Siddaramaiah slams union budget as 'anti-poor'

Bengaluru, Feb 28 (PTI): Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today slammed the Union Budget as "anti-poor" and "disappointing", saying the Finance Minister had only tried to build castles in the air to win people's appreciation.

He also said that signs of recovery in the economy were not because of the Modi Government's initiatives but due to the plummeting crude oil prices in the international market and the improvements were seen in the last year of the UPA rule itself as acknowledged by the Economic Survey report.

"The fall in crude oil prices has helped in reducing imports, thereby improving the economic situation. This also helps in tackling the fiscal deficit. Arun Jaitley has presented the budget in such a favourable atmosphere," he said.

Siddaramaiah said the Finance Minister had not taken advantage of the situation to present a "pro-poor" budget, which has "caused disappointment to me."The budget contained no specific proposals for farmers, workers, women and the unemployed, he charged, adding that agriculture, rural development and education had been completely neglected.

Siddaramaiah said the increase in allocation for MNREGA was negligible and housing and urban development about which the Modi government had talked much also did not have significant allocations. The middle class had not received any reliefs, he said.

"The budget is totally anti-poor. It is in favour of the haves. The BJP people are good talkers. In line with their trait, Jaitley has tried to create castles in the air to win people's appreciation," he said.

Siddaramaiah, however, welcomed the announcements to set up an IIT in Karnataka and develop Hampi, a world heritage site, saying, he hoped substantial allocations would be made for them.

Karnataka CM should set his house in order before commenting at national level. What are his achievements? A big zero? Look at the daily traffic jams on all major roads? No vision for the next 5 years? Metro has become jinxed, no new flyovers being constructed in Bangalore to get rid off various bottle necks. With Congress having a full majority what are his achievements? Again, a big zero other than a couple of particular community-appeasing schemes. It is shame that he became CM of Karnataka because BJP had created such a bad name thanks to Yeddy. See the power situation in Karnataka? How many new power projects commissioned/sanctioned? One of the worst CMs in Karnataka history

Drunko forgets that for 10 long years, UPA did NOT grant IIT to Karnataka, now NDA has sanctioned the prestigious institute to us...Also 200 Cr for sustaining HAMPI under UNESCO World Heritage Schemes, the state had sent in innumerable applications to Congress led UPA, but now without any crying, NDA sanctions this too....

Achche din aagaye. Service tax up from 12.36% to 14%. Excise up to 12.5%. Wah re Govt. Lage rahe loot mein. Congress kam loota tho ise tum pura karo. Corporate sector will enjoy while Individuals will suffer. Diesel and Petrol prices are going up by Rs.3 instead of decreasing while crude is still in a downtrend. Our Govt. will suck every penny out of y'all.
