Madikeri, Feb 27: Relating to a case in which a senior reporter of a Kannada daily was abused with obscene words and threatened with murder, district BJP president, Suja Kushalappa, was sentenced to two years jail term by the court of the junior magistrate first class (JMFC) here.
After a report about the alleged irregularities committed by the Akrama-Sakrama Samiti headed by Suja Kushalappa appeared in the said Kannada daily, Kushalappa reportedly used abusive language against the journalist, apart from posing death threat.
Judge of the court, Annapoorneshwari, delivered the judgment sentencing Kushalappa on Thursday February 26.
Kushalappa, who was the president of Virajpet taluk Akrama-Sakrama Samiti, was facing allegations of committing irregularities like nepotism and violating norms while deciding cases. The said journalist's report on these irregularities had appeared in Kannada newspaper. When the reporter went to 'Vijaya Sankalp' meet of BJP on March 29, 2013, Kushalappa launched a verbal tirade against the journalist.
While the journalist was represented by public prosecutor, Narayan, Suja Kushalappa was represented by advocate, Kavan. It is learnt that the alleged irregularities committed by the said Samiti are under Lokayukta investigation based on complaint filed by A K Subbaiah.
