Margao, Jan 27: Farmers of Davondem-Margao and United Goans Welfare Front (UGWF) came together here on Thursday to oppose proposed acquisition of Agriculture land at Davondem for a new 450 bedded District Hospital.
State Government had decided to build the 450-bedded-district hospital in this field and for which land acquisition process was started. When the local farmers came to know about this, they joined hands with UGWF and have opposed to same project.
In this regard, farmers and UGWF have submitted the memorandum to the Deputy Collector and have demanded to stop the acquisition process and have suggested that the new hospital can be constructed on government land available at Monte hill.
According to the farmers, vast vacant land of government on Monte hill-Margao, can be utilized for the new district hospital, rather than destroying their cultivating land.
