Feb 26 (Agencies) : An intriguing camera phone video has captured the chaos caused when wads of cash rained down on Kuwait City.
Drivers and bystanders ran into the road and leapt around trying to catch the notes that were wafting through the sky.
No one has any idea who or what caused the strange incident, which was captured in an astonishing video uploaded to YouTube on February 9.
Many news outlets reported that the episode took place in Dubai, but Middle Eastern newspaper The National confirmed this was not the case.
It said the presence of Burj Jasim building and a Fatburger restaurant by a car park in the video indicated that the incident happened in Al Murqab area’s Al Soor Street, in Kuwait City.
The 500 dirham ($175 notes) blew through the streets for several minutes.
Hong Kong saw remarkably similar scenes in December, when a van full of cash worth $5.8 million spilled on to a motorway, The South China Morning Post reported.
Despite the notes clearly tumbling from boxes stored in a security vehicle travelling through the Wan Chai district, drivers and bystanders raced to grab as much as they could.
Two people were later arrested and 27 gave up the cash they had snatched to police after a search was launched to recover the missing money.
