Panaji, Feb 25 (TNN): The decision on whether Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will go in for an alliance with the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) for the forthcoming zilla panchayat election is being taken in New Delhi.
Chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar along with deputy chief minister Francis D'Souza and panchayat minister Dayanand Mandrekar, went to Delhi to discuss the issue with central leaders.
"We are discussing the issue and the decision will be taken in a day or two," Parsekar told TOI from Delhi. He said the issue was discussed with defence minister Manohar Parrikar, and Union minister of state and north Goa MP Shripad Naik. South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, who was in Delhi, also participated in the discussion, Parsekar said.
MGP submitted its proposal to the BJP for alliance for the March 18 zilla panchayat polls last week. Last month, at a convention held in Candolim, the BJP's legislature wing was opposed to having truck with the MGP for the upcoming polls.
