Tumakuru, Feb 25: In a shocking incident, a 11-year-old girl walking to her school from home was kidnapped, raped, and murdered on Tuesday February 24. The incident occurred at Hittalahalli near Kadirapura in Kunigal taluk in the district.
The girl, Shwetha, had not returned home from school on Monday evening. Her parents, who were overtaken by tension, searched for their daughter everywhere with the help of villagers, but there was no trace of of the girl.
In the early hours on Tuesday, some pedestrians saw the mortal remains of a girl abandoned in the outskirts of the village. They called the police, whereupon police personnel visited the spot and took the body into possession. The police said that in all probability, the girl was kidnapped from a deserted stretch that lies on the way from the girl's house to her school.
Shwetha was the second daughter of Shanthamma and Krishnappa couple from Ujjini village. She used to stay with her grandmother, Tulasamma, at Hittalahalli. She was a fifth standard student, and walked to and fro from school every day, which is located about two kms from her home.
The face of the girl had turned black, there were marks of blood discharge from her face, and her stomach bore scratch marks made by nails. The police suspect that the girl was raped all through the night in a brutal way.
A case stands registered in this connection. District additional superintendent of police, R Lakshman, has exuded confidence of arresting the culprits involved with this act soon.
