New Delhi, Feb 24 (IANS): All India Football Federation (AIFF) president Praful Patel Tuesday said they will propose to host the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) annual awards ceremony for the first time in November.
Patel said at a press conference here that the gala event is expected to be held during the second edition of the Indian Super League (ISL).
"The AFC is having its Executive Committee meeting in Bahrain on March 9 and the AIFF is going to propose to host the AFC annual awards in India. It will most likely be held in November during the ISL," Patel said.
Patel added that hosting the awards ceremony will enable the country to show the world the awareness and development about the sport in India.
"Hosting the event will enable us to showcase the players from various Asian countries, and the world body officials the feel-good factor of Indian football and how much we are prepared for the 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup," Patel added.
The AIFF boss said the board is interested in hosting the 2017 FIFA Club World Cup and Under-20 World Cup in future.
