Puttur, Feb 23: A massive rally was organized here on Monday February 23 to create awareness about and condemn anti-social forces that try to divide people on communal and caste lines. The rally was organized by Jago Nagarik Vedike.
Hundreds marched in the rally that began from Darbe circle and culminated at the office of assistant commisioner, where they held a protest meet.
Addressing the protestors, advocate Durgaprasad Rai said, "The essence of all religions is the same. When this is so, no one should try to create fissures between religions. It is important that action is taken against people who do this, and all should join hands in this mission."
Taluk panchayat member Mohammed Badagannur said, "There are so many burning issues in the country. Scores of people are starving to death. Instead of speaking on these issues, efforts are being made to sow the seeds of communalism. The minorities are getting repeatedly pounded. We must live in harmony and foster peace. If religion becomes the country's constitution, then danger is imminent."
Claudis D'Souza of Jago Nagarik Vedike, Joachim D'Souza and others were present.
They also presented a memorandum to the assistant commissioner.
