Mangalore, Jan 24: At the Karnataka Development Authority (KDB) meeting held on Tuesday at Zilla Panchayat Hall, In-charge Minister for Dakshina Kannada district, B Nagaraj Shetty directed for a meeting wherein technical experts would join to discuss the Thumbe vented dam.
The discussion, he said, was to rethink on strengthening the dam. Shetty said that Rs 10 crore for building a new dam has been released by the government.
“The dam is weak and needs care said KUDCEMP deputy director J R Lobo. He further warned that if the dam collapsed Mangalore would be thrown into dire straits due to acute shortage of water. The construction of the new dam will take atleast two more years and thus plans need to be chalked to strengthen the existing dam, he said.
