Islamabad, Feb 22 (IANS): Angry Pakistani cricket fans smashed television sets in Multan to vent their frustration following the 1992 edition champion's defeat to the West Indies at the World Cup Saturday.

The disappointed fans held a mock funeral by mourning a bed of cricket bats on the city's MDA Road, reports leading Pakistani daily Dawn which further added that a group of enraged fans also smashed a number of TVs with large batons in Multan's Chungi No.9 area.

"We should bury cricket. We should not think about it. We should not play it. We should only focus on our national game hockey and other games such as football," a fan said.

A much improved all-round performance helped the West Indies thump Pakistan by 150 runs, their biggest margin of victory in terms of runs against the Asian team, in the Pool B match at Christchurch Saturday.

The Windies set Pakistan a target of 311 from 50 overs but the latter were reduced to 1/4 after 3.1 overs and were eventually dismissed for just 160. It was Pakistan's second defeat in as many games after losing the tournament opener to traditional rivals India at the Adelaide Oval last Sunday.
