Mangalore, Jan 22: A meeting was organised here at the Circuit House on Sunday January 21 to gather the views and suggestions of people here to make the forthcoming Vishwa Kannada Sammelan to be held in Belgaum a success.

The meeting was chaired by secretary to government for Kannada and culture, information and tourism departments I M Vittal Murthy. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the government would provide all possible facilities to the delegates at the Sammelan and termed the event as an opportunity to portray the achievements and progress made by the state in the last 50 years.

He further said that the Sammelan will give more importance to the development and agriculture of the state than to literature.

Elaborating on the Sammelan, he said that there will be a procession taken out in Belgaum, and also events like bullock cart race, food festival and a limited overs cricket match.

Tulu Sahitya Academy president Seetharam Kulal’s suggestion to highlight Abbakka Rani was readily accepted by Murthy.

President APJ Abdul Kalam has been invited to inaugurate the Sammelan, he said.

A literary meet and a screening of Kannada movies will also be part of the event.
