Goa, Feb 16: Well known Konkani writer Adv. Uday L. Bhembre has been appointed by Goa University as Poet Bakibab Borkar Chair professor.

The appointment is for 3 years starting from the current academic year.

Dr. Satish R. Shetye, Vice Chancellor of the University made this announcement in the 27th Annual Convocation of the University held on 23rd January 2015.

He said,"In the last few months we enlarged the scope of the professorships to have distinguished persons to teach regular courses on our campus. Well known Konkani writer Adv. Uday Bhembre now teaches in the Department of Konkani as Bakibab Borkar Chair Professor.”

The Department of Konkani of Goa University is the only post graduate department of Konkani in India. Bakibab Borkar Chair has been established in memory of poet Bakibab Borkar whose contribution to poetry in Konkani and Marathi is without parallel. He was the first representative of Konkani on the Executive Board of the Central Sahitya Akademi after the recognition of Konkani as an independent literary language by it.
