The Hague, Feb 16 (IANS): Stanislas Wawrinka won the 42nd edition of the ABN Amro World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam by beating title holder Tomas Berdych 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the final.
The fourth-ranked Swiss had difficulties in the first set against third placed Czech player Sunday, reported Xinhua.
The latter dominated, served for the set at 5-4, survived one break-point and earned the set.
Wawrinka gained the upper hand in the second set and Berdych had no answers to the aggressive play of his opponent.
The Swiss won the second and third sets to extend his winning streak over Berdych to six matches and to capture his first tournament victory in Rotterdam.
It was Wawrinka's ninth ATP Tour title overall and his second of 2015, after last month's win at the Chennai Open. It also was the first indoor title for the 2014 Australian Open champion.
"I'm happy I was able to turn the match around," Wawrinka told afterwards. "With my experience, I know what it's like to play important matches. It's a great thing to see my name on the winner's ring in Ahoy. I only see big names on that ring. It confirms the reputation of this tournament."
