Mangaluru, Feb 8: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, B Ramanath Rai, asked the officials to hurry up tasks and procedures related to the construction of service bus stand for the city near Pumpwell. He was addressing a meeting held in this connection at the office of the district deputy commissioner on Saturday February 7.
Giving details of the proposed plan, officials informed that the proposed building is planned to have three stories. They gave details of the design of the building, plan etc, duly adding that the project cost of the bus stand is estimated to be Rs 49 crore. There will be space to accomodate 76 buses at a time, and parking facilities for 120 cars. Also, a commercial area with shops within the building too has been proposed.
'The processes relating to the construction of bus stand have already been hit by delays. As we should aim at providing services as quickly as possible to the general public, we need to speed up the processes already set into motion. As the proposed bus stand is planned to be located adjacent to the national highway, meetings should be held with the officials of that department for detailed discussions. If the city corporation council passes a resolution about the plan in its meeting and sends the proposal to the government, we will ensure that it is placed before the cabinet meeting at the earliest, and try to get sanction as soon as possible,' he assured.
Health minister, U T Khadar, said that all perceived problems this project might encounter should be thought of in advance and all the problems that this project might encounter should be prevented by taking suitable measures beforehand. He also felt that holding discussion with highway department officials is of utmost importance.
Minister for youth services and sports, Abhay Chandra Jain, also retierated the importance of having a well-equipped bus stand for the city at the earliest.
MLAs, Mohiuddin Bava, J R Lobo, Angara, Shakuntala Shetty, district deputy commissioner, A B Ibrahim, and additional deputy commissioner, Sadashiva Prabhu, were present at the meeting.
Recommendation to divide DK into 37 hoblis
The long-pending demand for reorganization of revenue divisions (hobli) in the district was revived at a meeting attended by forest minister, B Ramanath Rai, at the office of the district deputy commissioner here on Saturday February 7.
Rai noted at the meeting that the government office at the revenue division level happens to be one of the most important one for providing services to the rural folk. The minister felt that dividing the present revenue divisions into smaller units enables people to get efficient and prompt services. Hence, a decision was taken to recommend to the government to form 37 revenue divisions in the office.
Apart from state health minister, U T Khadar and youth services and sports minister, Abhay Chandra Jain, the meeting was attended by MLAs, Mohiuddin Bava, Angara, Shakuntala Shetty, and J R Lobo. Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, A B Ibrahim, and additional deputy commissioner, Sadashiva Prabhu, were also present.
At present, the district is divided in 17 revenue divisions.
