Bhatkal, Feb 5: A sea turtle trapped in a fisherman's net has been rescued at Jali beach here.
Speaking to daijiworld, CCF N L Shantkumar said that the sea turtle got stuck in a fisherman's net on January 31. Immediately forest guard Subbayya Naik was informed.
The turtle was rescued from the attack of stray dogs near the beach and brought to Subbayya Naik's house. He kept it in a salt water tank in his house.
"The turtle's weight is about 10 kg and its age is around 10-12 years. These kinds of turtles are usually found in the Atlantic Ocean," said Gourish Padukone, an expert on sea turtles.
The turtle was released into sea on Thursday February 5 morning. CCF N L Shantkumar, DFO S Ramesh, ACF Nadeesh.L, RFO, G V Naik, Ganpati and forest guard officers were present on this occasion.
Curious locals and school children also gathered at the spot to take a glance at the turtle.
