Mangaluru: Customs seize gold hidden in trolley suitcases of passenger

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Feb 5: Customs officials working at the international airport here have succeeded in tracing and seizing gold worth Rs 15.90 lacs from the possession of a passenger who arrived here on Wednesday February 4 from Dubai.

The passenger concerned, identified as Muhammed Basheer from Pallatungal in Tekkil, Kasargod district, had arrived by a Jet Airways flight which touched down on Wednesday morning.

He had got the gold converted into thin sheets, and concealed the same inside the inner cover of two trolley suitcases.

The officials found out this mischief during the routine checking of luggages.

Customs assistant commissioner, Udayashankaran N, supervised this operation.

    Dear Daiji Team

For the curiosity of many like me as a reader of Daijiworld, can you give an insight what happens to the GOLD confiscated in airports. Is there any chance that the gold confiscated has any chance to be bypassed, may be partial before it is weighed completely?

Why dont they ban Kasargodis and Mallus from taking flight via Mangalore. I think its high time action be taken and the Kasargod people should not be allowed to enter through Karnataka (Mangalore airport) Let them go to Kerala airport

Mr Raghavenddra... These guy's all are from Kasaragod. Kerala..Not from Mangalaore (Kudla)ok.. This is for your information. And I appreciate custom officials. Keep it up sir but you should keep on routine checking of these people's luggage. They are going to gulf country just because of smugglings.. They never earn money through hard work.
