The Hague, Feb 2 (IANS): While Dutch football league leaders PSV Eindhoven booked a narrow victory over Willem II, nearest rivals Ajax Amsterdam suffered a late loss against Vitesse Arnhem.
After a lacklustre performance in the Dutch classic at Feyenoord (0-0) last week, Ajax continued to struggle at Vitesse Sunday, reported Xinhua.
The home-team had the best chances of the game, with Vitesse failing to create major chances. Bertrand Traore (Vitesse) and Anwar El Ghazi (Ajax) had the best opportunities, but failed.
Late in the second half, substitute Uros Djurdjevic became match winner with an outstanding goal.
The Serbian striker controlled the ball with his chest, lobbed it over Ajax defender Niklas Moisander and scored with a smashing volley.
In another match, PSV beat Willem II 2-1 in Eindhoven.
Robert Braber gave the visitors the lead in the 30th minute. After Memphis Depay missed a penalty, Jurgen Locadia equalised on behalf of PSV and Depay produced the winning goal three minutes from time.
Ajax now trail the Eindhoven-based club by nine points with fourteen matches remaining.
