Margao. Jan 4: A Tata Indica car bearing regn no. GA 08 A 0472 caught fire here on Wednesday at 6.30 pm, while it was being towed to the garage for repair by another vehicle.

According to fire brigade officials, their office received the information late about the mishap. As the informant first contacted to the Panjim police control room, the  control room contacted the Margao control room, who in turn contacted the fire brigade.

Cause of fire is not yet known. But the driver of Indica fled with the other vehicle driver. Locals said that the impact of the petrol tank blast was huge.

People had a suspcion that the car might have been fitted with an LPG connection for fuel, but when the fire brigade officials finally extinguished the fire, the police checked the vehicle and found nothing of that kind.

It was surprising that the car got gutted when the engine was turned off.

As both drivers fled the place, the name of the owner of the car could not be ascertained.

The car is in a totally ruined condition. Margao police are investigating the case.
