Kuala Lumpur, Jan 29 (IANS): Asia’s first Major champion Y.E. Yang will join the star-studded cast at the $3 million Malaysian Open next week.
Korean Yang, an Asian Tour honorary member, will vie for honours against a stellar field which includes EurAsia Cup Team Europe captain Miguel Angel Jimenez, Stephen Gallacher and Robert Karlsson at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club between Feb 5-8.
Defending champion Lee Westwood will also appear in the showpiece alongside Ryder Cup stars Victor Dubuisson, 2010 US Open Champion Graeme McDowell and Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley at the event which is sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour.
Joining them will be 23-year-old Gary Stal of France and Danny Willett, who both won on the European Tour recently.
Yang, who made history when he defeated Tiger Woods at the 2009 PGA Championship, will form the Asian brigade alongside two-time Malaysian Open champion Arjun Atwal of India, former Asian Tour No.1 Liang Wen-chong of China and Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand, a three-time Asian Tour Order of Merit winner.
Rising Indian stars Anirban Lahiri, Gaganjeet Bhullar and Rashid Khan will also vie for honours while 2013 edition winner Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Prom Meesawat, Thaworn Wiratchant, an 18-time Asian Tour winner and Prayad Marksaeng will make-up a global field.
