London, Jan 27 (IANS): Controversial referee Mark Clattenburg will officiate this weekend's top-of-the-table English Premier League clash between hosts Chelsea and Manchester City.
Chelsea accused him of using ‘inappropriate language’ in a 2-3 defeat against Manchester United in October 2013.
Chelsea claimed that Clattenburg racially insulted their midfielder John Obi Mikel and was overheard by his Brazilian teammate Ramires, reports bbc.com Tuesday.
The referee was removed from the match-list thereafter but soon cleared by the Football Association (FA) and police dropped their investigation.
Nigerian Mikel was fined 60,000 pounds and banned for three games for entering the referee’s room after the game.
Chelsea are currently the league leaders with 52 points from 22 matches, followed by City who are five points behind.
