SC bars Srinivasan from contesting BCCI election

New Delhi, Jan 22 (IANS): The Supreme Court Thursday said sidelined BCCI president N. Srinivasan cannot contest election for the Indian cricket board's governing body presidency as long as he is involved in a "conflict of interest" situation as an owner of IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

The apex court said this while striking down an amendment to the BCCI rules which permitted the office bearers of the apex cricket body to have commercial interests in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Champions League Twenty20 and all events organised by the BCCI.

The apex court bench, headed by Justice T.S. Thakur, held Srinivasan's son-in-law and CSK "official" Gurunath Meiyappan, and IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals' co-owner Raj Kundra guilty of betting and said the punishment will not only be confined to them but also extend to the franchises they represent.

The court set up a three-member committee headed by former Chief Justice R.M. Lodha to decide, besides other issues, the quantum of punishment to be given to Meiyappan and Kundra.

The court also asked Srinivasan to stay away from the BCCI on account of his commercial interest in CSK.

But the court made a distinction between commercial interest and professional interest in respect of service rendered by prominent former cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and current Indian team's director Ravi Shastri as commentators.

Good decision and given a message to the Capitalist - you can not escape because of "M" factor. Again Justice is upheld. How BCCI say it was private body ? Then how do you represents our country ? Who has given authority to you in this line ? How do you own-up cricket stadium all over country in including state board ? who's property it is ? Is it not public property ? In fact that - I am of the opinion that cricket should be banned from our country. It is evident that because of IPL it has lost all the moral values. Every one should agree that money and moral can not go together.

Good decision by honourable Supreme court. This nut should be banned for lifetime and his CSK should also ban from IPL and also same fate for Rajasthan Royals team. Current Indian team is half CSK.

It'sad that this decision and final nail on Srinivasan Coffin has been nailed a bit too late as the Indian Team down under for the world cup is getting it's worst ever drubbing .
All the bowlers save Aksar Patel & STR Binny are going to get the hiding of their lifetime by batsmen like ABD, Maxwell & even no 11 batsmen too.
After the world cup, we will see a brand new BCCI as well as a brand new Indian Test & One dayer team. Maybe one day Test Cricket in India will become a gentleman's game if the like so Dravid, Kapil Dev , Bedi's et all are given important positions in the BCCI.

Cricket is dead in India. Whatever the show is running now with the support of the huge cash earned during the last many years. Now Cricket is just lik W W F.(World wrestling Federation)and full of betting.
Imagine...!During one betting raid, Sreesanth was caught with 2 girls in a Hotel Room somewhere in India....and this guy married a girl from Rajasthan Royal family later...! There are many links are missing in this issue. Anyway BCCI is a richest cricket body in the world...and all the crooked and cunning and corrupt public figures want to be its president...! Look at the players ...like very obedient K.G-1 children.... Thu dhikkaar hai heisa khel ko..

Good decision...Should Srini alowed to contest to BCCI,it would be murder of RULE OF LAND.

Srinivasn tried his best to occupy world's most wealthy sports body seat by hook or crook for that all other esquire members either supported directly or indirectly. But ultimately,SC discounted money power.

This was expected and deserved. If he has little Izzath left in him he should just forget cricket. Indian cricket was full of "YES MEN ".
At last there is some relief.
