Golfer Allenby withdraws from tournament after alleged 'kidnapping'

Hawaii, Jan 21 (IANS): Australian golfer Robert Allenby has withdrawn from this week’s Humana Challenge in California after he was reportedly kidnapped, assaulted and robbed.

The 43-year-old is still recovering from the incident which happened Friday after he missed the cut at the Sony Open.

The four-time Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) Tour winner said in a statement Tuesday that he pulled out from the Humana Challenge on the advice given to him by his doctor.

"This will enable me to ensure I am fully recovered, I anticipate a full recovery and look forward to returning in the near future," he was quoted as saying by bbc.com.

Allenby, who is ranked 271 in the world, said earlier this week that he was spotted by a homeless woman being abandoned in a park, after he was abducted, driven for six miles and robbed.
