Vasco (Goa), Dec 27: Indian Navy's landing ship craft, INS Shardul, a vessel meant for amphibious operations, would be commissioned and based at Sea Bird Naval base at Karwar on January 4.
Union minister for defence, A K Anthony in presence of chief of naval staff admiral sureesh mehta would commission the indigenously built ship which will remain under Karwar command.
The Calcutta-built ship is the latest in the range of vessels and would enhance Indian Navy's capability of surveillance at the sea.
