Kampala, Jan 17 (IANS): World football governing body FIFA has asked Ghana why it cannot give Ugandan player Joseph Ochaya an International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
"The world governing body wrote to the Uganda FA Wednesday indicating that they have given the Ghana FA at ultimatum till Jan 20 to prove why Ochaya cannot be allowed to join a team of his choice," said the FA's spokesman Hussein Ahmed Friday, reports Xinhua.
Ochaya who formerly played for Ghana's League Champions Asante Kotoko sought assistance from FIFA after his employers were not fulfilling part of his contract terms which forced him to return to Uganda last year.
Ahmed explained that the Ghana FA has been tasked to attach any evidence why they have not issued an ITC to the player.
David Tamale, secretary to Ugandan Champions KCCA FC told Xinhua in an interview that they are trying to sign Ochaya because the player does not want to go back to Ghana.
"Ochaya has a point if Asante Kotoko failed to pay him what he was meant to get. Let them release him so that we can get the best out of him since he is even our former player," added Tamale.
