Panaji, Dec 23: A woman coast guard employee has levelled serious allegations against deputy inspector general Coast Guard, Abhijeet Dey, of discrimination and sexual harassment.
"The woman working with Indian coast guard office in Goa, has alleged in her petition that the DIG ill treated her on the basis of caste and also sexually harassed her," Ujwal Mishra, deputy inspector general, said.
Dey could not be reached for comments.
The woman has petitioned the local police, which was forwarded to higher-ups for further action.
"We have not registered any case as the petition is vague and there are several allegations. We did not find it cognisable at this juncture. We will talk to the woman concerned," Mishra told.
Goa police have sent the petition back to Indian Coast Guard asking them to get it inquired through their committee for sexual harassment at workplace.
"Every department has such a committee and it is for that committee to inquire into the matter," Mishra said.
The woman, besides levelling sexual harassment allegations has also said that she was discriminated on caste basis, he added.
"Going by the petition there are so many issues involved in it. It talks about discrimination and some form of sexual harassment. We will decide the gravity of petition only after talking to the lady", Mishra said.
"We will call her and check whether she has any specific complaint," he added.
