Cong slams Goa CM for occupying two bungalows

Panaji, Jan 15 (PTI): Opposition Congress today slammed Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar for occupying two official bungalows and called government's austerity measures an "eyewash".

State Congress today distributed the allotment letters, issued by General Administration Department (GAD), to media persons, which showed the chief minister was alloted the CM's official residence 'Mahalaxmi', while he is also occupying another bungalow that was alloted to him when he was health minister in the Manohar Parrikar-led government.

It said that 'Mahalamxi' was alloted to him as 'camp office'.

"The chief minister is just interested in his own comforts. The (recent) circulars about austerity measures are just an eyewash," Congress spokesperson Sunil Kawathankar said.

He said that he has also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, drawing his attention towards the wasteful expenditure.

"BJP, which is projecting as 'messiah' of common people, are bending all possible rules. This is for the first time GAD has issued such an order. The bungalow has to be official residence of CM and not a camp office," Kawathakar said.

The letter, a copy of which was also sent to Governor of Goa Mridula Sinha, read that both the houses are situated few metres away from each other in the plush Altinho locality.

He demanded that Parsekar should vacate the bungalow that was alloted to him as the health minister.

When contacted the chief minster's office, the CMO said the bungalow which was allotted to Parsekar as Health minister would be vacated by the end of next month as renovation of CM's official bungalow was underway.
