Yaya Toure wins African Player of Year award

Abuja (Nigeria), Jan 9 (IANS): Manchester City footballer Yaya Toure has been named the African Player of the Year, becoming the first player to win the award four times in a row.

The veteran from Cote d'Ivoire defeated Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama in the competition, reports Xinhua.

Yaya Toure helped Manchester City win the English Premier League title last season and was a key member of the Cote d'Ivoire squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Toure won the prestigious African award in 2011 for the first time.

Coaches and technical directors of the 54 members of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) took part in the vote.
