Rio de Janeiro, Jan 8 (IANS): Brazil football club Vasco da Gama are set to launch a bid to sign former Fiorentina striker Santiago Silva.
The 34-year-old has been told he is no longer part of the plans of Argentina's Lanus, who he joined from Boca Juniors in 2013, according to Brazilian sports news portal Lancenet, reports Xinhua.
Vasco president Eurico Miranda is understood to see the Uruguayan's experience as ideal for a young team that last year won promotion from Brazil's Serie B.
Silva has had one previous spell in Brazil, an unhappy five-match stint with Corinthians in 2002.
He has scored 170 goals from 455 first-team appearances since making his professional debut for Uruguay's River Plate in 1999.
