Havana, Jan 7 (IANS): Cuba aim to defend World Boxing Series (WSB) title with a 32-man team led by their Olympic champions.
Olympic gold medalists Roniel Iglesias and Robeisy Ramirez will lead the Cuban team "Domadores" at the fifth WSB, reports Xinhua.
In addition to Iglesias (69kg) and Ramirez (56kg), the squad features Erislandy Savon (91kg), considered the top boxer in the last edition of the WSB, and Yosbany Veitia, now in the 52kg category. Both went undefeated in their eight fights last season.
The team also includes two-time world champions Lazaro Alvarez (60kg) and Julio Cesar La Cruz (81kg), as well as World silver and Olympic bronze medal winner Yasnier Toledo (64kg).
Yoandrys Toirac, champion of last year's Central American and Caribbean Games and Pan-American leader Leinier Pero, are also considered top Cuban talents.
Cuba will compete in the WSB for the second time and their first fight is set for Jan 16 in Havana against Morocco. A week later, they will face Algeria.
