Flamengo eye Argentina under-20 star

Rio de Janeiro, Jan 5 (IANS): Flamengo have made a bid to sign Argentina under-20 midfielder Lucas Romero.

According to the Lancenet news portal, the Rio de Janeiro club has offered a $3 million contract to the Velez Sarsfield star, reported Xinhua.

It is understood Velez Sarsfield have requested $5 million.

Romero, who made his first-team debut for the Buenos Aires club as a 17-year-old in 2012, has also been linked to Brazilian Serie A champions Cruzeiro.

Flamengo last week made their first signing of the off-season by announcing the arrival of forward Marcelo Cirino on a three-year deal from Atletico Paranaense.
