Ancelotti expecting to sign new contract

Madrid, Dec 30 (IANS): Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that he expects to renew his contract with the Spanish football club.

In just under a year and a half at the helm, Ancelotti has led the Spanish giants to the Spanish Cup, the Champions League, as well as the Spanish and European Supercups and the Club World Cup, held recently in Morocco, reports Xinhua.

With his side now leading the BBVA Primera Liga in Spain and favourites to retain the Champions League, Real Madrid are keen to extend Ancelotti's stay at the club and the Italian is happy to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

"The situation regarding my contract is clear: I don't know when it will happen, but it will happen," said Ancelotti in an interview with Italian newspaper, La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I am too happy here (in Madrid) at every level and my history will continue," he continued, adding that 2014 had been a "fantastic, incredible and unforgettable" year.

"This year we have all entered into the history of the club and we want to continue. Everyone has their ambitions and I think it is more important to make history than to win anywhere and everywhere," said the Italian, who also set out his ambitions for the coming year.

"We are competitive as we were last year. We are going to try to do as well as possible. Nobody has won the Champions League two years in succession, but we are going to try and do it," said Ancelotti.
