Accra, Dec 27 (IANS): Ghanaian boxer Emmanuel Tagoe secured a knockout victory over his Tanzanian opponent Sadiki Momba to take the WBA Intercontinental Lightweight title at the Accra Sports Stadium Saturday.
Tagoe (22-1, 9 KOs) defeated his challenger in the sixth round to become the new champion, in a fight which was watched by a host of Ghana football stars, including skipper Asamoah Gyan, reports Xinhua.
The bout, dubbed "Who Rules the Ring", was under the management of Baby Jet Promotions which is owned by Gyan.
Tagoe, also known as "Game Boy", dominated the bout until midway through the sixth round when Momba (18-5-2, 6 KOs) gave up after sustaining what appeared to be a shoulder injury.
Tagoe believed Saturday's win over Mamba will be a stepping stone to get a world title belt for Ghana next year.
