Kasargod, Dec 25: In an incident which occurred at Star Nagara in Bevinje in the district late evening on Thursday December 25, a LPG tanker tumbled on national highway and its diesel tank burst as a result. Diesel poured out due to the impact and spread all over the road.

As there was apprehension about leakage of gas from the fallen tanker, which can have deadly repercussions, people living in nearby areas were shifted to safer places. Fire extinguishers and personnel reached the spot immediately after they were alerted, and got engaged in the task of ensuring that the incident does not snowball into a catastrophe, particularly so because diesel has spread all over.

It is learnt that the gas tanker was moving from Mangaluru to Kannur when the accident occurred. As a result of this accident, the area has been cordoned off, and traffic on national highway stands thrown out of gear.

The expert team of Hindustan Petroleum has arrived on the spot and taken steps to pump the gas to another tanker and release the remaining gas into the air as per the demands of the circumstances. The entire operation will take several hours, and therefore vehicles on national highway will have take a detour if they need to reach destinations without too much delay.

On the morning of Friday December 26, the officials confirmed that there is no gas leakage and hence no cause for fear.
