Mumbai, Dec 7: A delegation of Kannadiga Students’ Welfare Forum here, met governor S M Krishna to urge the government withdraw its decision to close municipal Kannada medium schools in the city from the next academic year. They submitted a memorandum stating that instead of closing down the schools, the government should appoint more teachers.
Forum president Justice Prakash L Shetty said in the memorandum that there are only 125 teachers available for 295 classes in 46 schools, resulting in a shortage of 165 teachers. Many of the teachers retired between 1997 and 2000 but new teachers have not been appointed to fill their posts. The future of several students is at stake, he said.
Prakash L Shetty, forum vice president Chandrashekhar Palettadi, joint treasurer Sachindranath Shetty, administrative committee member P D Shetty, Harry S Ferrar, Harishkumar Shetty, Naveen K Inna, Ramanna P Shetty, Rons Bantwal, Balakrishna Bhandary and others were part of the delegation.
