MUMBAI, Dec 6: Alistair Pereira, accused of mowing down seven persons with his car last month, was arrested on charges of forgery and for submitting fake papers to obtain a driving licence, a top police official said.
 
Pereira, who has been charged under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code in connection with the death of the seven persons who were sleeping on a pavement in Bandra on November 12, had been granted bail on December 1 by the Bombay High Court.
 
Though born in 1985, Pereira had allegedly forged the school leaving certificate issued by St Anne's High School in Bandra and claimed he was born in 1982. He allegedly used the document as proof of his age to get a driving licence in 2000, police said.
 
"We stumbled on it during our recent investigations and Alistair was arrested this evening by Oshiwara police for forging the papers," DCP V K Choubey said here.
 
Earlier, Pereira was arrested with five of his friends for running over people on a pavement on Bandra's Carter Road early on November 12, killing seven and injuring over a dozen.
 
All the arrested persons were allegedly under the influence of alcohol when the incident occurred and were returning from a late night party.
 
While his friends got bail the same day, Pereira was charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and was granted bail by the High Court on December 1.
 
He was told to pay Rs 35,000 to the next of kin of each of the dead within a week by the court.
