Madrid, Dec 18 (IANS): Spanish club Getafe have been rocked by coach Cosmin Contra's decision to quit and join Chinese outfit Guangzhou R&F.
Contra, who arrived at Getafe towards the end of last season and helped save the Madrid-based outfit from relegation, will join Guangzhou after the Christmas break, meaning Sunday's La Liga tie away to Granada will be his last game in charge, reports Xinhua.
Guangzhou have also signed Getafe mid-fielder Michel, who is currently on loan at the club from Valenica.
Although Contra's decision to leave Getafe, who he led to a 0-0 draw at home against Barcelona last weekend, is a shock to the club, Getafe president Angel Torres admitted he did not blame the Rumanian for his decision to leave and even left the door open for a future return.
