PSG snap unbeaten run, Monaco beat Marseille in Ligue 1

Paris, Dec 15 (IANS): Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) lost their unbeaten record after being handed a shock 0-1 defeat by EA Guingamp, while league leaders Marseille slipped up too at Monaco in Ligue 1.

PSG monopolised possession throughout the match Sunday at the Stade Du Roudourou and Edinson Cavani hit the bar but Guingamp striker Jeremy Pied's 10th-minute header stunned the holders before Jonas Lossl made a key save late to deny the visitors' top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic, reports Xinhua.

The victory is a much-needed boost for struggling Guingamp who moved up to the 13th place, while Les Parisiens remained one point behind Marseille who were beaten 0-1 by Monaco at Stade Louis II.

Earlier this week, Guingamp qualified for the Europa League knockout stage, while PSG lost their last group match 1-3 to Barcelona though both teams advanced to the Champions League last 16.

Laurent Blanc believed that everyone in the Paris side must take responsibility for their first Ligue 1 defeat of the season.

"The reality is that this afternoon there was a lack of collective and individual concentration. This is our problem," said the coach.

"We did not play well tonight, obviously," echoed goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu.

"We'll have to work it out with the coach in the week to try to understand what went wrong. We must face the difficulties when the situation is more difficult."

Marseille, however, missed the chance to extend their lead at the top of the league, a defeat at Monaco preventing them from taking a major advantage of PSG's defeat.

The usually dependable Steve Mandanda made a mistake to see the league leaders slip up as Bernardo Silva took advantage to score the game's only goal in the 67th minute.

Elsewhere, Lille OSC finally solved their goal-scoring problems, beating 10-man Toulouse 3-0 to earn three much-needed points, while AS Saint-Etienne missed the chance to close the gap to third-place Lyon after being held 0-0 at OGC Nice where both sides were reduced to 10 men in the first half.

After the 18 rounds, Marseille keep their one-point lead over PSG while Lyon go two further behind and St-Etienne three points adrift of Lyon.
