Mangaluru: CCB police nab ganja peddler; thwart attempt to sell antlers

Mangaluru, Dec 2: Acting on credible information, the city crime branch (CCB) police led by inspector Valentine D'Souza on Tuesday December 2 arrested a ganja peddler near Mahaveer circle.

The accused, identified as Umesh (33), a resident of Jeppinamogaru, was caught red-handed near a hotel close to the Mahaveer circle.

The police recovered 500 grams of ganja and two mobile phones from the accused. The value of the seized items is around Rs 10,000.

During interrogation, it came to light that Umesh has been secretly supplying ganja to undertrials in the jail too.

The accused as well as the seized ganja have been handed over to Mangaluru rural police for further investigation.

The arrest operation was conducted under the direction of police commissioner R Hitendra, and guided by DCP (law and order) Dr K V Jagadeesh and DCP (traffic) Vishnuvardhan.


Antlers seized

In another operation on the same day, the CCB police led by inspector Valentine D'Souza arrested three persons who were attempting to illegally sell antlers.

The accused are Mohammed Waseer (22), a resident of Puttige Padavu, Sampige post, Mangaluru taluk, Firoz Khan (30) from Narasimha block, Bengaluru, and Girish (23), a resident of Chennagiri, Davangere.

They were arrested near Moodbidri bus stand. They were transporting the antlers by a Maruti Omni when the police stopped the car and arrested them.

The operation was conducted based on credible information that the accused had illegally brought the antlers from Ubrani in Davangere and were looking for buyers here.

The police seized four pairs of antlers, Maruti Omni, and four mobile phones from the accused. The total value of the seized items is estimated at Rs 5 lac.

Among the accused, Firoz Khan was accused and later acquitted in an attempted theft case at KG Halli, Bengaluru, seven years ago.

All the three accused have been handed over to Moodbidri police for further investigation.

    I presume, Hafta was not paid on time. Otherwise, drugs were traded openly with the full knowledge of police, yet they dont arrest. Even if they arrest, culprit will come out on bail within short period and continue the same practice. When it is NO means it should be NO only and not the balance between YES and NO.

    Very sad thing is our youngsters are soft target for these criminals.

    Ganja doesn't lead to death, if it had then US states are not crazy to legalize it. No death cases so far.. Alcohol certainly does KILL..

    so, is it based on what America does, we find it legal or illegal is it? ... so, US people drink Alochol which kills, but it is legal to drink... how r u justifying?

    You know about the recent activities in Mannagudda involving teenagers chopping each others under the influence of ganja?

    Mr. Shankar, there is absolutely no connection between violence and marijuana. It is quite on the contrary actually. It works to calm the brain. Please get your facts straight. That isolated incident was personal enmity and no one was under the influence. That was just implied by word of mouth, and maybe they were priorly involved. Please try to gather some knowledge on the subject before knowingly or in your case, unknowingly putting forward false information.

    Dear Police do not give us such stupid news halfway...Please let us know when you will be reaching the ganja growers and the real hunters....!!!!??? Will you...!!!??? No way...once you do that your income stops and you definitely want that....!!! Is there any other reason...!!!??? May be I will not be aware...readers can advise.
