Cruzeiro's Ribeiro named Player of the Year in Brazil's Serie A


Rio de Janeiro, Dec 2 (IANS): Cruzeiro mid-fielder Everton Ribeiro was awarded player of the season for the second straight year in Brazil's Serie A championship.

The 25-year-old Brazil international was among five Cruzeiro players named in the team of the year by the Brazilian football confederation (CBF).

He joined Selecao colleague Ricardo Goulart, Dede, Egidio and reported Real Madrid target Lucas Silva in the CBF's best starting eleven.

Ribeiro, who has been linked with a move to Manchester United and Liverpool, was rewarded for his strong form with a national call-up in September.

Cruzeiro's Marcelo Oliveira was also named manager of the year while 20-year-old Goias striker Erik was voted the competition's best young player.
