Beltangady, Dec 1: In a tragic incident, a young girl died in a hit-and-run accident at Nada here on Monday December 1, right in front of her parents eyes.
The deceased has been identified as 7-year-old Pooja Laxmi, daughter of Shivalingam and Pushpa, residents of Manjakal in Nada here.
As per the complaint filed by the girl's father, Pooja had accompanied her parents to Beltangady town on Monday. After her father finished his work there, the family took an auto rickshaw back to Manjakal.
They got out at Manjakal and were standing beside the road. Pooja meanwhile, cross the road and stood on the other side.
At that a moment, a recklessless driven Wagon-R came speeding from Killur towards Beltangady and hit Pooja who was standing by the side of the road, states the complaint.
When the parents, alarmed at seeing Pooja fall on the road, rushed to her screaming for help, the driver of Wagon-R, instead of stopping, sped away.
Pooja was rushed to hospital where she breathed her last.
Pooja was a 2nd standard student of St Mary School in Laila.
Her father has urged the police to identify and arrest the car driver at the earliest.
A case has been registered in Beltangady police station.
