Mangaluru, Nov 30: It's a foodie's delight at Milagres parish grounds. The two-day 'Christmas Food Fiesta-2014', organised by Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh episcopal city deanery to raise funds for the noble cause of building 10 houses for needy families, was off to a grand start on Saturday November 29.
The event was inaugurated by senior advocate M P Noronha.
Addressing the gathering, Noronha said, "This is a meaningful event. There was a time when big families used to reside in small houses. But now houses are big and families are small.
"Food Fiesta will lay a strong foundation for the upcoming Christmas. Let us all join our hands together and raise funds for the needy," he said.
"Everyone should follow in the footsteps of Jesus," he urged.
Fr J B Crasta, spiritual director in his presidential address thanked everyone for being part of the initiative to raise funds.
Anil Lobo, president of Catholic Sabha episcopal city deanery, briefed about the event and the purpose behind organising the Christmas Food Fiesta.
Fr J B Crasta distributed participation certificates for the contestants of cooking competition.
Fr Valerian D'Souza, parish priest of Milagres Church welcomed the guests. Flora Castelino proposed the vote of thanks. Roshal Coelho compered the ceremony.
Linnette D'Souza president of Catholic Sabha Milagres and others were also present.
Prior to the formal function, students from Alva's College, Moodbidri showcased their talents in front of the packed crowd. A special magic show was performed by renowned magician Prof Shankar-Shankar Junior and team.
