Atalanta fans banned from away games for 3 months

Rome, Nov 29 (IANS): Fans of Italian Serie A club Atalanta have been banned from travelling to away matches for three months.

The punishment Friday came after police had to intervene both during and following a 1-2 loss at home to AS Roma last weekend, reports Xinhua.

Fans attacked police with small homemade bombs containing nails and other metal bits, which resulted in injuries to six police officers and damage to three police vehicles.

The new anti-violence law for stadiums was put in place in August, and the Atalanta fans ban is the first application.
