Mangaluru, Nov 28: In a shocking incident, skeleton remains of a young couple were found in a desolate forest area at Naladepady near Kerekadu under Mulky police station limits near here on Friday November 28.

The bodies, which were totally decomposed and reduced to mere skeletons, were found with nooses around them, indicating that the couple may have committed suicide.

The names of the deceased have not yet been ascertained, although an identity card found in the trouser pocket of the boy indicated that he was worker in the Panchakarma department of Moodibidri Alva's Ayurveda Medical College. No information is available yet about the girl.

The bodies were discovered by youths identified as Balakrishna Devadiga, Sukesh and two others when they were making preparations for the Friday night procession of Thokur Sri Subramanya Temple deity as part of Shashti festivity. The youths were searching for upright tree trunks to install lights along the procession route, when they noticed a yellow nylon rope lying suspended from a tree. On inspecting, they found nooses made out of the rope and a dupatta tied to two small branches, and clothes, footwear and remains of bones on the ground. Scared at the sight, the youths contacted the Mulky police through some media persons.

It is suspected that the young couple committed suicide by hanging. The bodies fell to the ground due to weight, and in the process, the hip bones and ribs of the male have got buried in the soil. Three mobile phones, a bike key, a ladies watch, and a SIM card have been recovered from the spot.

A mangalsutra chain has also been found on the girl's clothes. The boy's footwear and bottle of water were also found.

The skull bones of both the bodies were not found, and it is suspected that they might have been taken away by some wild animal.

Mulky police inspector Ramachandra Nayak, SI Parameshwar and other personnel arrived at the spot.

A case has been registered and further investigations are on.

Surprising is the fact that no missing complaints seem to have been filed, or the police would have scoured old missing persons records and dug more information on the sequence of events!!!

Love failure or obstacles from their families for their marriage who could be from different casts might have driven them to commit suicide. If police can identify the deceased female partner, then it is easy to find out the reason behind committing suicide. I wonder why a missing complaint was not lodged with the police.
