Karkala, Nov 17: A rickshaw driver was killed on the spot when a speeding Maruti Omni car collided with his rickshaw near Joduraste near here on Thursday November 16 night.

The deceased has been identified as Asmat alias Munna (23), a resident of Ayyappanagar near Kukkundur here.  He was on his way to Kukkundur when a Maruti Omni speeding towards the town from Udupi collided with the rickshaw.  As a result both the vehicles were damaged completely.

While Rickshaw driver Asmat sustained serious injuries and died on the spot, Prashanth (25) and Ranjith (28) who were travelling in the rickshaw have sustained injuries and admitted to hospital.  Car driver Mohammad Shafi, car owner Abdul Rahiman of Banglegudde too have sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to KMC Hospital at Manipal.

Abdul Rahiman's wife Mumtaz too has sustained minor injuries and is admitted to a private hospital here.

A complaint has been filed in the town police station.
